3 Ways to Earn Money With a Web Site

Do you have, or want to create, a web site and want to start learning how to earn money with it?
I am going to give an overview - hopefully in very simple terms anyone can understand - of 3 different methods you can use to earn money from your site.
So let's just jump right into it, shall we?

Method 1: Display or "Banner" Advertising Networks
Banner Advertising Networks are at the most basic level an aggregator of both advertisers and website owners. They will sell advertising on a large amount of sites which they don't own to their advertiser base and in turn share the revenue from the advertising sales to the owners of those sites. Some people may consider them advertising sales brokers.
Banner Ad Networks can be very beneficial to owners of smaller web sites because they do all the work to get the advertisers, make sure they pay, and track everything. Usually implementation is as simple as cutting and pasting a few lines of code on your web site. They also let you reach large advertisers who otherwise may not be interested in working with a small site, because the network can place the advertisements across 10, 20 or even thousands of web sites at once.

Method 2: CPC Ads Like Google AdSense
Google AdSense is an Ad Network like above, but they primarily pay only for advertisements after a visitor has clicked on the ad on your web site. They do offer some purely display advertising to their advertisers but primarily the pricing model is auction based where advertisers compete with bids as a dollar amount for a click on the advertisement.
There are other CPC Ad Networks out there also, but Google is by far one of the largest online advertising networks.

Method 3: Affiliate Marketing
With Affiliate Marketing you don't have to actually sell anything directly on your web site, but you can earn a commission off the sale if you refer the purchase to the company who actually sells the item.
So if you have a web site about widgets but don't actually sell widgets and already have Banner Ads and possibly CPC Ads on your site but want to earn more money from your site, you might look into finding someone who already sells widgets (Let's call them Widgets, Inc.) and become their affiliate.
After you have applied to Widgets, Inc. affiliate program and been accepted you can add the widgets they sell to your web site, and link to them so people visiting your site can click to Widgets, Inc. via a special tracking link that attributes any sale on the Widgets, Inc. web site to a referral from your site.
Widgets, Inc. then will periodically pay you all your earned commissions for sales you have referred to them.
